This joyful artwork was born in a moment of unexpected delight. While taking a break from the overwhelm of doing my taxes, I sat in a friend’s garden and was suddenly surrounded by a flurry of pīwakawaka - darting, dancing, and chirping with such light-hearted energy that it instantly lifted my spirits.

Dance of the Pīwakawaka is my thank you to all birds - for the joy, colour, and connection they bring to our lives.

In Māori tradition, the pīwakawaka is more than a cheerful flutter in the trees. It's often seen as a spiritual guide or guardian, a messenger between realms.

With bold colours and flowing lines, this piece captures both their playful movement and quiet wisdom - offering a vibrant sense of joy and meaning to any space.
