Description

There's a spot on Ruakākā Beach where you can look right across to the Whangārei Heads, and on a good afternoon it stops you in your tracks. The land, the sea, the sky, that long sweep of sand - each one lovely on its own, but together they're something else.

Out on the water is a little yacht. That's Good Hope - my Dad's boat. I've sailed these waters with him more times than I can count, and painting this I could feel us gliding back into the harbour after another trip up the coast.

I let the koru carry one thing into the next - the sea into the land, the land into the sky - so it all holds as one whole, happy moment.
